The best grocery in central Geneva. Not even close.
Manor is a Swiss department store — shoes, watches, housewares, the lot — but the food hall in the basement is what you're here for. It's the best grocery in central Geneva by a significant margin, and the fishmonger is in a different league from anything else in the neighbourhood.
The fish comes from real places. There's a fishmonger based in Nyon who supplies them with fera, the local lake fish — white, mild, incredibly fresh — and it's one of those things you can only really get here. The sardine fillets, the salmon, the selection of cured meats from the Valais. The bread is good. The local vegetables section is properly curated, not just a sticker that says local on something from Spain.
The thing to know about Manor is the daily sales — they call it action. Every day there's something significantly reduced in the fish or meat counter. Sometimes it's lamb chops, sometimes a good steak, sometimes scallops or salmon. Worth checking what's on action before you decide what you're cooking. Half the time it's better than whatever you planned.
"The fishmonger gets fera from Lake Geneva. That alone is worth the trip."
And it's a department store — so if you need a pair of shoes, a gift, a watch, a kitchen knife, or something for the house, you're already there. Efficient Geneva errand running.
