Right off the main square in Plainpalais. The husband makes the sushi to order behind a glass counter — when he's out of something (eel, for example), that's it for the day. The wife handles orders and the cash. Takeout only, no tables, no reservations. Just turn up.

Genuinely some of the best sushi in Geneva. The wasabi is homemade, which makes a larger difference than you'd expect — completely different from the stuff in little plastic sachets. The fish is good. The rice is good. The whole thing is quiet and honest.

"Get the large platter, grab sake from Uchitomi around the corner, go home, put on some cheesy Japanese restaurant music."

The platter in the photos cost about CHF 110 for the large — the Sushi MATSU. Honest money for Geneva. They also do smaller boxes starting at CHF 19 if you're eating solo. The full menu is posted in the window.

On the way out: stop at Uchitomi, a Japanese grocery a short walk away. Pick up sake cold. Cold sake, the platter, candles if you can be bothered. It becomes a proper evening.

The large platter. Sushi MATSU — CHF 110.

They sell out. Don't go after 19:00 expecting the full menu — go early in the 17:00 service. The eel and the sea urchin (oursin, CHF 9 per piece) go first.
