The Cow
The best pint of Guinness in west London, possibly the whole city. Creamy, unhurried, served properly. Tom Conran opened it in 1995 and it's never tried to be anything other than exactly what it is: a serious pub with serious food and no nonsense about either.
The menu leans into the sea — native oysters, whelks, winkles, crab. Order a half dozen oysters with your Guinness at the bar and you've got the whole thing sorted in under a tenner. The crab pasta upstairs is worth the longer sit if you're hungry.
Earlier in the day — a Saturday morning, say, before the neighbourhood fills up — it's one of the better places to be in London. Pint, newspaper, no rush. The dog in the photo had the right idea.
"Order oysters with your Guinness at the bar. That's the move. Everything else is optional."
