Why I like it

The restaurant car on Swiss trains is legitimately nicer than first class, and you can sit there the whole trip. Order something, open your laptop, watch Switzerland go by. Nobody seems to know this is an option, which is why the car is usually half empty and completely calm.

Buy the regular ticket and walk straight to the restaurant car. White tablecloth, real glass, Alps out the window. After a coffee or a glass of wine you've spent first-class money — and had a much better trip.
